What is the GRETA Model – and why does It matter?

The GRETA model is one of the most comprehensive competence frameworks developed for adult educators in Europe. It defines the key knowledge, skills, values, and self-management abilities needed to deliver high-quality adult education. However, while the GRETA model provides a strong theoretical foundation, it has not been widely implemented as a structured training program. This is where TeachUp brings something new. TeachUp builds directly on the GRETA model and transforms it into a practical training system. The project develops modules that cover core areas such as pedagogical skills, subject knowledge, professional values, and reflective practice . A key innovation is the combination of the GRETA model with micro-credentials. This allows educators to document and validate their competencies step by step, making skills more visible and transferable across countries. By operationalizing the GRETA model into real training and certification pathways, TeachUp helps bridge the gap between theory and practice. The result is a more structured, flexible, and recognized approach to professional development in adult education.
