About TeachUp
TeachUp is an Erasmus+ initiative dedicated to strengthening adult education quality across Europe
What the Project is About
Building stronger adult education across Europe
The project focuses on strengthening the quality and recognition of adult education across Europe by supporting the professional development of adult educators. It responds to the growing need for modern, flexible, and digitally supported learning opportunities in adult education. Through a structured training approach and the use of digital tools, the project aims to improve how adult educators plan, deliver, and evaluate learning for diverse adult learners.
The project develops a competency-based training programme that reflects the real working conditions of adult educators, including those who work part-time, freelance, or alongside other professional roles. By combining pedagogical, digital, and reflective competencies, the project contributes to more inclusive, effective, and future-oriented adult learning.
The main goal of the project is to professionalise adult education by providing adult educators with accessible, high-quality, and recognised training opportunities. The project aims to equip educators with clearly defined competencies that align with European frameworks and support lifelong learning.
A key objective is to create flexible learning pathways that allow educators to upskill gradually through modular training and micro-credentials. This approach supports continuous professional development while respecting the time constraints and diverse backgrounds of adult educators. The project also aims to strengthen digital readiness and encourage innovation in adult education practices across Europe.
Goal of the Project
Professionalising adult education across Europe
Who the Project is For
Educators and learning organisations
The primary target group of the project is adult educators. This includes full-time and part-time educators, trainers, facilitators, and professionals who teach adults in formal, non-formal, or informal learning settings. Many of these educators come from different professional backgrounds and often lack specific training in adult pedagogy or digital teaching methods.
The secondary target group includes adult education providers, training centres, educational organisations, and institutions involved in lifelong learning. These organisations benefit from improved staff competencies, structured training resources, and tools that support quality assurance and professional development.
Adult learners also benefit indirectly from the project, as better-trained educators lead to more engaging, inclusive, and effective learning experiences, particularly for learners with diverse needs or lower skill levels.
Why the Project is Needed
Adult education plays a crucial role in addressing skills gaps, digital transformation, and social inclusion. Despite its importance, adult education is often under-resourced, and adult educators frequently lack access to structured and recognised professional development. In many countries, educators enter adult education without specific preparation for working with adult learners, relying instead on informal experience.
The project addresses this gap by responding to the lack of clear competency frameworks, limited training opportunities, and insufficient recognition of adult educators' skills. Many educators work in flexible or temporary roles, making traditional training models inaccessible or unsuitable. At the same time, rapid technological change has increased the need for digital competencies and innovative teaching approaches.
By offering a flexible, competency-based, and digitally supported training model, the project provides a practical solution to these challenges. It supports the long-term improvement of adult education quality and contributes to stronger lifelong learning systems across Europe.
